![]() ![]() I understand there are no lines during the week, and we will try again, but we will be back waiting in line if necessary for Father's Day and for birthdays!. Even with the line out, the door and, down to end of the block with many families with children waiting for tables, we were never rushed, everything hot, freshly made, and with the restaurant being so large the wait was not as long as we expected. Will go back to taste their extensive noodle menu if I can get myself away from the Dim Sum selections. That's right, experienced, not just never have tasted!. There were items on the carts I haven't seem outside of Hong Kong or Bejing and desserts I have never experienced before. So the line moves fairly quickly, and well worth the wait which was only about 30 plus minutes. The place is large even though from the outside it looks small. They opened one hour early expecting the crowd they got!. ALERT.have only been there once and on Mother's Day Sunday. Some of the reviews seem to have mixed these place up with one another!. 2 Photos 5 Reviews 13.50 Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings 4 Photos 2 Reviews 10.15 BBQ Pork Buns 3 Photos 4 Reviews 11.25 Fried Shrimp Dumpling 8 Photos 4 Reviews 10.15 Egg Custard Buns 4 Photos 2 Reviews 19. This is a very large restaurant and is on Webster in ALAMEDA, NOT the place in Emeryville on the water with the beautiful view!. The reason I put "authentic" in capital letters is because if you are looking for Americanized pre-frozen Dim Sum this may not be the place for you. You can decide how much it matters to you.Great AUTHENTIC Dim Sum. Doesn't mean I can't be critical when something bothers me. I know, my stupid Western culture does stupid things too, with way too much regularity. Don't tell me I'm being a cultural snob, because science should transcend culture when it comes to ecosystems being trashed. I watched a video and let me tell you, I never thought I'd cry over a shark, but there were tears. I like eating flesh and animal byproducts, but ripping the fins off a shark and dropping it back into the ocean, its life wasted, to die a miserable death? Not my idea of sustainable fishing. ![]() My biggest problem with East Ocean is that they still serve shark fin soup. This is a far cry from the cavelike dens of gustatory joy you can find in San Francisco's Chinese districts like Grant Street and Clement Street. On the other hand it's a very bright, open, welcoming restaurant, even verging on elegant, so you're definitely paying for atmosphere. CONS: Their food is a little overpriced for dim sum. My left eye is starting to twitch, just thinking about that warm, comforting goodness. There may be a twelve-step program for this, but I haven't found it yet. The baked sweet buns are the gateway drug to an addictive cycle difficult to transcend. It's hard to eat when a dying, cancerous carp is gawping at you (my experience at a place in the Outer Richmond, years ago - NOT at East Ocean!!!). They have fish tanks and live crustaceans, and the water is clean and smells all right. But I see a lot of very happy folks here who aren't speaking a word of English amongst themselves, happily chowing down on steamed chicken feet as well as other things that are probably not on the English speaking menu. I am too much of a wimp to eat a lot of traditional Chinese dishes. The place is large, and I still had to wait for a seat, but I didn't mind waiting at all because I knew what a treat it was going to be. East Ocean Seafood Restaurant: Excellent Dim Sum - See 173 traveler reviews, 106 candid photos, and great deals for Alameda, CA, at Tripadvisor. I was there most recently on a Sunday afternoon, and I had to drive around the block several times before finding a place to park. ![]() It is steamed and so delicious! So many choices! The service is excellent and the price is right. Another one I love is the the dim sum dish that comes wrapped in some kind of leaf. There are so many different things I love, though, that someday I want to try them all. My favorites are the barbecue pork buns and the shu mai. I always end up taking a box home because I order so many different plates. The carts are plentiful with loads of delicious choices. it is the best Chinese Dim Sum you can get in the US. I absolutely LOVE this restaurant! I always go when I am anywhere near Alameda. ![]()
